Every year more than twenty million followers and lovers of sacred household of noble prophet of Islam (S.A.W.) ,from evry nook and corner of world visit the holy city of Mashhad, to perform the pilgrimage (ziyarah) of the holy shrine of hadrat Imam Abul Hasan Ali ibn Musa al-Reza ( a.s.), the eight Shi‘ite Imam, located in the city. At any time of the year the number of the pilgrims (zawwar) present in Mashhad nearly equals the population of the city and on special occasion the number of pilgrims even exceeds the local population of the city. Thus, the holy shrine of Imam Reza( a.s.) In Mashhad is one of the most extensively visited pilgrimage centers in the world. The lofty and marvelous buildings of the holy shrine of Imam Reza ( a.s.), comprises one of the oldest and most beautiful religious and historical monuments in the world. The pilgrims ‘ faith love and devotion to the holy Ahl al-Bayt ( a.s.), along with their skill and mastership had evolved and developed the holy shrine of Imam Reza( a.s.) ,as one of the most magnificent, splendid lofty and grand pilgrimage center of the world.
